Dear Palouse Prairie Families,

We look forward to welcoming you to Palouse Prairie Charter this fall! There is a great deal of important information to know, whether you are a new or returning family. So please read on and email us with any questions.

Back to School Night is Monday, August 30 and 31

Back to School Night will take place in two parts this fall. In order to avoid a large gathering in the multipurpose room, our introduction with information from our Executive Director, PPCS Board and Parent Crew will take place via Zoom on Monday, August 30 from 6:30-7:00 p.m. Please click on this zoom link to attend.

Back to School Night Meet and Greet will take place at the school, 406 Powers Avenue, on Tuesday, August 31 as outlined below. Families will have the opportunity to explore the classroom and meet their students’ teachers. Please look for important forms and sign-up sheets.

5:30-6:15 K-2

Families Email List

Please be sure that you have subscribed to our newsletter, the Quail Call, on our website. This is how we communicate vital information with our families. If your email address has changed, you will need to sign up with your new address. Please ensure that the emails are not being blocked by your spam filter.

Immunization Records and Birth Certificates

All students must have immunization records or exemption forms and birth certificates on file at PPCS before attending class. Please make sure your child is up to date on their immunizations and that a current immunization record is on file at the school. Seventh grade students must have records of their meningococcal and TDaP vaccines on file at the school. Immunization exemption forms must be filled out each year.

Student Supply Donations $30-$50

To save families time and money, we purchase all student supplies through the school. This bulk ordering allows us to bring the cost down and save on packing materials. We request a donation of $30-$50 per student to cover the cost of providing all of your student’s personal school supplies. We appreciate your making a donation before the first day of school or at Back to School Night. You can pay online via PayPal at this link. *If the purchase of these supplies creates a hardship for your family, please contact the school’s Director.

Backpack and Water Bottle

Please make sure your child comes to school each day with both.

Federal Free and Reduced Price Lunch Program

School lunches will be free for all students this school year. Instead of the Free and Reduced Lunch Program Application, there will be an income determination form for all families to fill out. We’ll provide that form at a later date.

School Hours

School begins at 8:25 and ends at 2:55, Mondays through Thursdays. We have early release on Fridays at 2:15. The doors open at 8:10. If you want to drop your student off before then, we offer Before School Care for a reasonable fee.

Riding the Bus

If you plan to have your student ride the bus, you must contact the MSD Bus Garage at 208-882-3933.

Parent Bus Ride Day

Parents with kindergarten through 3rd grade students may ride the bus route with their child on Tuesday, August 31. For more information or to sign up, please see the attached forms. They will run a.m. routes only with regularly scheduled pickup time for our stops.  Parents and kindergarteners will be taken back home after the buses stop at all schools with riders.  At this point, the Bus Garage is not 100% sure of the route times until after all parents have called us to sign their kids up to ride the bus.  They are currently the same as last year, but could possibly change. The Bus Garage will contact families if their pickup time changes.

Before School Care

Before School Care is available for $50 per month and begins at 7:30 a.m. each morning. The registration form is available on the website at this link. Before School Care scholarships are available for eligible families. Please contact the office for more information.

Picking Up and Dropping off Students

To pick up a student after school, parents can enter the parking lot from Nursery Street and circle counterclockwise around the parking lot to the front of the school. Remain in your cars and keep to the right. Students will be helped out of or into a waiting vehicle by a staff member. Parking is prohibited in the parking lot for drop-off and pick-up purposes. Parking is available on Southview Avenue, with sidewalk access to the school along Nursery Street.

Families will receive a colored card to be displayed on their rearview mirrors. The color denotes the family’s pickup time slot. Please do not get into the pickup line until after your allotted pickup time slot. Each family will receive two cards of the same color. Drivers that arrive early will be required to loop around until their time slot. No early arrivals will be allowed to idle in the pickup zone. Only pre-arranged early pickups will be allowed. Cards will be given to students during Back to School Night.

Staggered pick times for students are as follows:

2:55 Blue card pickup time

3:00 Yellow card pickup time

3:05 Pink card pickup time

Playground in Progress

Fundraising to complete our playground continues. Many thanks to all who have contributed. We are more than halfway to our goal of $25,000 in order to add a basketball court, slide and swings. If you would like to help us complete our playground, you can donate at this link:
