Students began the semester delving into texts that helped them answer the questions “What is school? Why is School Important?” Next, students learned about how they are a part of many communities.  Discovering that each member of the community brings a personal story that makes a community a place people want to be.  They took a look at themselves and the communities that they are a part of by answering the questions “how have I grown and changed over time?” “How has my school grown and changed over time?” and finally “how has Moscow grown and changed over time?” Students had numerous writing opportunities throughout this expedition. To answer the question “how has Moscow grown and changed over time?” Students spent time learning about the founding members of the community and how Moscow came to be.  Finally, students became experts in the history of the Kenworthy and created architectural sketches of different parts of the building and modeling after The Important Book  collaboratively wrote an informational text about the building.

“The important thing about the Kenworthy is that it’s for the community.

In the past the Kenworthy was called the Crystal Theater and now, it’s called the Kenworthy Preforming Arts Center. In 1925 the theater was remodeled and in 1926 Milburn Kenworthy changed the name to the Kenworthy.

Yes, it’s true that the Kenworthy used to have movies with no color and Vaudeville shows and now it has movies with color, plays, and concerts.

But, the important thing about the Kenworthy is that it’s for the community.”
