B.S. Dance, University of Idaho 2021
M.Ed. Physical Activity Pedagogy, University of Idaho expected graduation December 2022

My name is Shaleyna Higgins and I am delighted to start my first year teaching at PPCS! I am originally from Bonners Ferry, Idaho and studied at University of Idaho for my undergraduate and graduate degrees.  During my graduate degree, I had many opportunities teaching physical education throughout the Moscow School District. In my previous position with the University of Idaho, I was a teacher's assistant for the Exercise Health and Human Sciences College and dance program. For many summers, I was as a camp coordinator and led kids through educationally rich adventure programs. I also worked for the Eggan Youth Center in their after-school program and taught at Festival Dance Academy.

My physical education class will be a fun, encouraging, and inclusive environment that makes students feel welcomed. I am passionate about helping students be physically literate and find a love for movement through a variety of physical activities that include interactive learning and team building. This passion brought me to Palouse Prairie Charter as I admired their expeditionary learning and connections made to the community and real world. I have always loved to move and be physically active through my dance training and exploring the outdoors. In my free time, I love to practice yoga, dance, snowboard, hike, camp, swim, rock climb, bike, and spend time with my family. I am very excited to teach physical education and adventure at PPCS!
